Duration: 3 days

The British Safety Council Awards (BSC Awards) is a leading awarding body offering nationally-recognised qualifications in health and safety .

The BSC Awards Level 2 Certificate in Supervising Staff Safely is aimed at those with general responsibility for the health and safety of others. It is ideal for supervisors, team leaders, department heads and junior managers.

The Certificate is based on the national occupational standards for health and safety and has been accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at Level 2 in the National Qualifications Framework.

Fit for purpose assessment involves three short workplace-based tasks issued to each candidate upon registration. These tasks benefit not only the candidate, but also the employer. The candidate’s findings/answers are sent to an external examiner for marking.

Confined Space Awareness training

The recent House of Lords decision in respect of R v Associated Octel, where Octel unsuccessfully appealed against a Section 3 prosecution (health and safety at Work Act) has meant that this has now become a difficult area legally for employers.

Fire Safety risk assessment Course

Duration: 1 day

This course will enable participants to carry out a Fire risk assessment in their own workplace. It also gives guidance in the formulation of a Fire Safety Management Plan to ensure that all aspects of fire safety are maintained in accordance with the Fire Precautions (Workplaces) (Amendment) Regulations 1999.

From December 1999, even though employers hold a valid fire certificate, it is now a legal requirement for the employer to carry out a Fire Safety risk assessment.

The amended regulations have the following effect on premises:

They place primary responsibility upon the employer for fire safety.
They encompass within the employers duty to make a health and safety risk assessment, the Risk of Fire.
They institute a risk appropriate regime.
They put the onus on the employer to ensure their staff are trained to the required standards in Fire Safety.

The course is ideal for Managers and supervisors who have operational responsibility for safety, and it also serves as an ideal foundation course for those wishing to progress onto the NEBOSH General Certificate course.

Part-time health and safety staff, safety representatives and graduates have also found it to be invaluable in providing essential skills for putting health and safety theory into practice.

The Managing Safely course comprises seven core modules, requiring a total direct input period of at least 24 hours, plus assessment time. The delivery can be spread over a convenient time span. One organisation-specific module may be added if required.
