oasys Training & Safety Services offer a variety of manual handling training courses. If you own or manage a business where manual handling is a necessity for your staff, you may not be aware that they are in danger of developing musculoskeletal injuries. If it is evidenced that the staff have not been trained properly in manual handling the employer may found be liable. oasys would advise any employer / employee involved in manual handling in their workplace to attend one of our Manual Handling courses. All our Manual Handling training courses include a balance of theory and practical, and encompass lifting and handling within a framework of safe or safer movement patterns and focuses upon a technique known as base movement. The techniques used are founded in kinetics and follow the guidance offered by Professors Stephen Pheasant & David Stubbs, professors of Ergonomics with the Robens Institute at the University of Surrey. Choose from our half day or full day Manual Handling training courses, or our three day Manual Handling Instructor and Assessor course. We have found that the timing of the short half-day Manual Handling course allows clients to achieve good learning outcomes. However, our full day Manual Handling course, with the emphasis on the Risk Assessment element of manual handling, offers greater detail and gives delegates the opportunity to fully establish safer movement patterns with loads that they might traditionally handle. The Manual Handling Instructor and Assessor course (MHIA) is of three days duration, concluding with a written examination and a presentation / demonstration of "Base Movement" by the delegates. The course is suitable for those people who are identified as in-house trainers or peer group leaders. It is anticipated that these people will be able to directly influence others and therefore one of the basic prerequisites are good communication skills, both verbal and written. Delegates would be expected to undertake and be successful at a written examination, which tests the delegates underpinning knowledge and also deliver a 15 minute training session on a manual handling topic. Due to the practical nature of the course, we prefer to limit delegate numbers to 12, but we can tailor the course to suit your organisation in terms of content covered and delegate numbers. As with all our courses, our Manual Handling training courses can be tailored to suit organisational requirements. If your company has internal procedures or systems to promote, these can be complimented with reference to your own systems, which would add credibility to the training and create ownership within the company for the safety effort.
